Making it ART 2017 A FREE event at the Wyvern Theatre, Swindon

MAKING IT ART 2017 TOOK PLACE ON THURSDAY 9TH MARCH 1pm WYVERN THEATRE SWINDON.

Reach Inclusive Arts were proud to present ‘Making it ART 17’ an inspirational event that took place on the main stage of the Wyvern Theatre on the 9th March at 1pm. Young people from local Swindon Schools, Uplands, Crowdy’s Hill and Commonweal Special Needs Unit, were joined by adults from Reach Inclusive Arts company of performers called ‘Partners’, a group of actors who meet regularly at the Wyvern Theatre. They all entertained an audience of friends, family and members of the public. Arts workers from Reach worked with pupils from the participating schools to develop original performance pieces. These young people were encouraged to express their thoughts and hopes about their lives and their aspirations for adult living. These workshops took place in each of the schools for a number of weeks leading up to the show and considered work, lifestyle and leisure ambitions. The three school groups spent the show morning rehearsing on the Wyvern stage during which time participants were able meet one another and share their experiences. Reach distributed programmes which included information from local organisations who offer activities and further education opportunities.

Funding for the project was provided by BBC Children in Need and Pudsey Bear helped to introduce each of the acts. Reach inclusive Arts are grateful for the help given by a number of people. Many volunteered their time on the day, including staff from Threadneedle Portfolio Services Ltd. Nationwide Print Services produced the programme and the Wyvern Theatre staff and volunteers guaranteed the smooth running of the show.

Reach Inclusive Arts collected comments on the day from members of the audience, staff, participants and arts workers. These express the excitement and atmosphere created by this project.
