IMG_7752Reach Inclusive Arts runs an annual youth theatre event which begins on an outreach basis with  teenage disabled people from three Swindon Schools at the transition stage from education into adulthood. Reach employ experienced professional arts practitioners to develop performance pieces with the young people. The theme of the project is “Who do you want to be?” and explores their aspiration and hopes for their future, adult lives. Each school then performs their own original piece on the main stage of the Wyvern Theatre supported by the arts workers.  Reach expands the impact of the day beyond artistic aspiration by establishing an opportunities fair in the foyer of the theatre. More than 20 organizations send trade stands which offer supported leisure pursuits in the Swindon area such as music, sports, gardening and amateur dramatics for the young people to learn about other activities that are available for them.

Street theatre for young people with psychiatric disordersReach have designed projects that cater for the needs of young people from Marlborough Hose in Swindon, an NHS in-patient unit that works with young people aged between 11 – 17 years old suffering with a range of psychiatric disorders.  These projects use a mix of drama and visual arts, the drama elements provide opportunities to act out situations that cause problems and the visual art provides time to reflect on how they feel.
