Street Arts, a  project that culminated in a public Street Theatre performance on Thursday 20th April, 2017 at 1pm

This show took place on the raised walkway outside the Wyvern Theatre, Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN.

The day began rather wet then opened into a favourably fine afternoon

Reach Inclusive Arts worked with young people from Marlborough House NHS In-Patient unit for 11 – 18 year olds, during their Easter Holidays.  This was  a mixed media project, based at the Wyvern Theatre Swindon. During the morning the group worked with drama practitioners to devise a performance piece. In the afternoon they created masks that they then used in the show. Called:

‘How The Waters Came To The Plains’. The piece explored the following, group devised, themes…..

‘Travel way, way, back, to when the world was new and join us for an Aboriginal Dreamtime creation story. Follow the greedy Weeri and Walawidbit and discover how the billabongs came to the plains.’

Street Arts Performance day  was shared with the acclaimed Partners Theatre Company, Wiltshire’s foremost group of actors with disabilities, based at the Wyvern Theatre.  They performed a short excerpt from their forthcoming Arts Council funded tour, ‘Trip Wire’, programmed for  visits to schools and public venues during two weeks in the autumn, 2nd – 13th October 2017.

‘Trip Wire’, explores themes of digital communication, its strengths and potential pitfalls!

Stacey Hawkes lives in 2016. With a small gadget she holds in her hand she can access the world, see the world, meet the world and enjoy all the many benefits of the cyber super highway. So, when she gets left behind in France it should be easy for her to find her way home…?

Street theatre is an exciting medium that enables performers to develop a positive sense of self-esteem and enhance their confidence whilst encouraging group cohesion. Helped by the use of self-expression, positive focus, learning to be supportive within a group environment and working together to achieve an end goal. Feedback from those who took part reinforces this:
